PANJIM: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) has issued new protocols regarding the cremation of persons who have died from COVID at the Panjim Hindu Crematorium.

This was issued by Panjim Mayor Rohit Monserrate on Friday. The CCP pointed out that the cremation of COVID deaths can take place between 2 and 7 pm and that for the cremation -- only 10 people from the deceased side will be allowed.

While CCP won’t charge any amount for use of hearse van within the jurisdiction of Panjim city for any COVID-19 death, an amount of Rs 500 would be charged to transport the COVID dead from GMC, Bambolim to Panjim for cremation. The CCP charges Rs 100 for issue of NOC.

Considering the current COVID crisis prevailing in the State, the CCP has decided to waive the additional amount of Rs 1,000 which was charged for those bodies other than that of Panjim city residents. The rates will be Rs 100.

An amount of Rs 2,800 is charged towards wood cost and is payable to the managing committee of the Hindu Crematorium. The CCP further reported that other than the above mentioned amount, no amount should be paid to anyone. Moreover, they made it clear that CCP workers are not supposed to shift or handle any COVID bodies at the crematorium.

The CCP has also informed that proper documents will be needed for cremation i.e. doctors certifying death slip in original, Aadhaar Card or any other government ID card.

“If anyone demands any additional money other than what's mentioned above, I request you to please call and report the same to OSD to the Mayor, John Rodrigues, at 9822125599,”  For hearse van, people can contact Dattaram Baelkar, only for Panjim till 7 pm at 9403687466,” said Monserrate.
