Cannot comment on CM’s ‘utterances’ on mining, says BJP national VP

PANJIM: A couple of days after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told his cabinet colleagues there was no solution on mining coming from the Centre, the BJP National vice-president Vinay Sahastrabuddhe said the Centre is actively looking for a solution to the mining imbroglio.

“I am not aware of what Chief Minister said, but let me tell you there is no difference and there is complete unanimity between Centre and State as far as the mining issue is concerned,” Sahastrabuddhe said replying to queries at a press conference.

He added that he “cannot comment on the utterances of chief minister. But yes, Centre and State are on the same page on the issue”.

He further said that it would not be true to suggest that nothing has been done by the Centre to resume mining operations in Goa. “Mining is an intricate issue, as everyone is aware judiciary is involved. If it was left only to the government things would have been easy to resolve. But here, the judiciary is strongly involved and therefore the issue has become very tricky and therefore it is taking a little longer. But I am sure sooner or later the solution would be out,” Sahastrabuddhe said.

Asked whether the solution was expected before or after the Lok Sabha polls, he said, “I cannot predict when the solution would come but the entire gamut of mining issue is under active consideration at the apex level and work is in progress,” he added.

At the post cabinet briefing TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai had said that the chief minister now feels there was no solution coming to the mining issue from the Centre and hence the State itself will have to find a way out.
