SANGUEM: The villagers from Podla-Verlem in Sanguem Taluka have urged the Electricity Department for immediate replacement and repair of the damaged electricity poles and cables in the village.

Villager Prakash Gaonkar informed that since last over one year, about seven electricity poles are tilted towards the ground and there is every possibility of the poles falling in the coming monsoon if not replaced immediately.

“Due to the tilted position of the poles, the live electricity cables are lowered down and at some places almost touching the residential houses,” complained Gaonkar.

Incidentally, the matter of tilted electricity poles at Verlem and neighbouring Salgini village was highlighted by ‘Herald’ about a year back, and the Electricity Department had replayed the two poles, which were almost on the verge of crashing down.

The villagers from Podla ward of Verlem village pointed out that after looking at the tilted position of electricity poles, they are living in fear as the live electricity cables pass over their houses.

Village panchayat Member Ashok Gaonkar informed that he had recently forwarded a letter to the Sanguem Electricity Department along with the site photographs of the tilted electric poles to undertake the repair work and get the electricity line shifted as a precautionary measure.

“The supporting cables to keep the poles firmly grounded have given way and the situation is turned all the more worse,” informed villagers.

Gaonkar informed that the Electricity Department had undertaken a survey in the village a year back but no follow up is done as of date.

Gaonkar informed that the department too had assured of getting the work done on urgent basis.
