PANJIM: Panjim City Corporator Bento Lorena on Wednesday filed a police complaint against Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Scoop Oxygen alleging negligence resulting in the death of COVID patients.

The corporator, in his complaint to Panjim Police Station, alleged that oxygen shortage in the State is man-made and responsible are Rane and owner of the oxygen manufacturing company.

“Large number of deaths have occasioned only on account of shortage of supply of oxygen which has been solely on account of the act of Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Scoop Oxygen Owner/Director Sanjiv Naik and other officials of Health Department who knew there was acute shortage of supply of oxygen to cater to the needs in case of any pandemic like situation as a result of which large number of deaths are occasioned,” states the complaint letter.

He further alleged that Rane handpicked the gas producing company despite complaints in the past that Scoop would supply trolleys with empty or half filled cylinders to GMC.

Lorena has sought action against the persons named in his complaint for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.  Police confirmed receipt of the complaint.
