GOACAN welcomes belated genset use advisory

Team Herald

PANJIM: The GOACAN has welcomed the Goa Electricity Department’s advisory though belated to consumers on the use of inverters and requested that the Chief Electrical Engineer (CEE) act on the GOACAN letter dated May 28, 2021 which had proposed many suggestions on safety.

It may be noted that GOACAN in May 2021 in a letter to the CEE had given several suggestions to the Electricity Department. It had sugge4sted that the existing application Form A being used to register gensets be modified to also include registration of inverters, and had sought a clarification on whether this clause in Form A was still valid and will be enforced.

A drive needs to be conducted to check whether the installed "change over switch" is the same as approved by the Department and whether it is still in a sealed condition. This drive can first start with the gensets being used by government departments like the Directorate of Health Services and their allied facilities like Hospitals, Primary Health Centres, etc.

It had urged the department to conduct an awareness drive on using solar power among all consumers of gensets and inverters and to launch a special awareness drive for consumers in June 2021 on the need to register gensets and inverters and the safety reasons for the same. Assistance may be taken from the Directorate of Panchayats and Directorate of Municipal Administration so as to increase the reach of this important awareness drive.
