PANJIM: Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai on Friday suggested that the “High Court should take over the situation in the State, as the government has chosen not to act at all”.

Vijai said that over the past few days, “Deaths have continued to occur and the government’s inaction and lack of priorities is alarming.”

Goa Forward Party President highlighted that a total of 75 Goans have died in the “dark hour” between 2 am to 6 am. He said for the last four consecutive nights from May 10 to 14, because of oxygen shortage.

Vijai said, “There is a complete mismanagement of oxygen at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim” and has raised questions to the government asking, “are they even paying heed to the High Court.”

The GFP Chief pointed out that Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court had invoked Article 21 of the Indian Constitution – the Right to Life and said that “despite the High Court’s clear statement on the direction the government should follow.”

Vijai echoed Goan public sentiment saying that “more Goans are in the opinion that the High Court should take over the management of COVID-19 in the State, as the government is only busy conducting Public Relations  exercises, promoting false narratives, and engaging in photo ops.” He said, “The people don’t need politics now, they need accountability and transparency.”

He added that “the Opposition wants to help and are doing all they can in their respective constituency. However, the government has completed slowed the approval process, leaving only the people in danger.”

Vijai earlier said that “Pramod Sawant government is solely responsible for the situation Goa is in. From allowing tourists without preventative measures, flouting all COVID protocols, mismanagement of resources, delayed action, the mess of logistics operations and lack of support to medical staff, the government should hang its head in shame.”
