MAPUSA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that Mapusa will be given preference similar to Panjim, which is given under Smart City concept, and expressed confidence that BJP-backed candidates will win in the Mapusa Municipal Council elections with majority.

On Saturday, the Chief Minister participated in election campaign of BJP-backed candidate Renuka (Rupa) Bhakta in Ward No 19 of MMC. Bhakta is facing a direct fight from former chairperson Sudhir Kandolkar.

Also present were Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza and Convenor Rupesh Kamat.

The Chief Minister said that 20 BJP-backed candidates will win the Mapusa Municipal Council election.

"BJP has always shown what human development is and will continue to work on the same. All our party workers are working hard. I accept that we have fallen short in development of Mapusa. However, mistakes which happened last time will be rectified this time,” he said.

“In next one year, most of the development works in Mapusa will speed up and in next five years Mapusa town will be given preference similar to Panjim.”

"Ravindra Bhavan for Mapusa is pending because we haven't received clear land title yet. If we get land as per requirement, then in next 10 months foundation stone for the project will be laid,” he added.

When questioned about putting restrictions to casinos, the Chief Minister informed that advisories are issued and the Collector has also issued notices to everyone. Everyone should follow all the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
