Margao Sounding Board

Does Margao police station love to store junk?

Margao police station is well-known for storing junk from accident vehicles to official vehicles, which are non-commissioned. But it is funny how its backyard has boards and signage made for Def-Expo in 2016 which have been completely unused despite shortage of signboards and boards displaying directions in the city. Why can’t these be reused, or is the bureaucracy in the police station disallowing the use of these sign boards? At a time when reuse and recycle is the new mantra, this government office seems to be mocking the public.

Repairing bad roads to dig it up again

As most will remember, the roads leading to the Khareband flyover were dug to lay sewerage lines and after umpteen inconveniences and accidents, after much delay of nearly a year and public outcry the roads were fixed. Now, almost immediately after the hot-mix was done the road was dug up again, incidentally, to fix faults in the same sewerage line. It not new to note that the PWD, sewerage department and MMC often carelessly indulge in exercises that shames the whole aspect of town planning and coordination.

Digging continuers at Colva Circle

While the Opinion Poll Square was a party zone for the last three days as it hosted the Konkan Fruit Festival, is was surprising to see traffic being disrupted barely a few meters away due to the road digging works to fix a sewerage line. This despite the sewerage department’s boasting of underwater cameras and surveillance system. It’s time the city initiates action to ensure that their equipment and construction efforts are in the same direction.

Bull prowl in the dead of the night?

While Dhirio is not a legal sport in Goa, and the hot summer prevent the Salcete bull owners from taking their bulls out for grazing during the day. But the streets are too dark to walk the bulls on the streets. Hence the bulls are illegally mounted on small goods carrier and taken to the fields to graze at night, which is unsafe for pedestrians and cruel for the bull. Besides, this nocturnal activity creates a problem of drinking and anti-social activities like gambling by the owners and workers, while the bull is being taken for night grazing. We wonder how the government can untangle this mess?
