Waste posing a big problem: IMA

Indian Medical Association Margao president Dr Suraj Prabhudessai admitted that medical waste is posing to be a big problem and could have serious ramification as it is infectious and hazardous waste that needs to be disposed properly. He said IMA State unit has made some arrangements with the City Corporation of Panaji and said he would check up on that and see if the same can be replicated in Margao. “I am not in a position to say anything right now but I shall have to check with the State committee,” he said. It may be recalled that Maina Curtorim Police had recently asked the Health Services to identify the place from where medical waste dumped in Sao Jose de Areal village came from after the Sarpanch Perris D’Costa had lodged a complaint with the police.

Fatorda police station registers first FIRs

In the fortnight since its inauguration Fatorda Police Station has registered five FIR and 16 Non Cognisable cases of which seven were accidents, besides also getting embroiled in a court matter for failure to register a FIR based on a complaint lodged by Aires Rodrigues. The FIRs registered include two molestation cases of which one is against Adv Victor Nalatoni who reportedly molested his sister-in-law during Dussehra celebration and the second was against Agostinho Rodrigues from Orlim who molested some women near TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai’s house. An accident case was also registered against Parshuram Kolkar whose Bullet motorcycle hit the Activa scooter riden by Sagar Bandekar resulting in Sagar fracturing his leg. Two FIRs were registered in assault case the first being against two persons who had assaulted Prem Kumar Chandraban from Agalli at his paan shop and both the accused were remanded to 10 days police custody. The other assault case was registered against an unknown person who assaulted a security guard.

Fatorda Police have recently been burdened with overseeing the arrangements for the FIFA under 17 world cup and also ensuring that no retail sale is undertaken at the wholesale fish market.

Centre gives Rs 24 cr to Konkan Railway Corporation

The Union Ministry of Tourism is funding the Konkan Railway Corporation to the tune of Rs. 25 crore under the Central Finance Assistance informed KRC Public Relations Officer Baban Ghadge.

He said this amount will be spent on beautifying three stations in Goa namely Margao, Karmali and Thivim to make them look more attractive to tourists. “We propose to improve the circulating areas at these stations and plans will be prepared shortly as we have just received sanction for this amount,” he said. The three railway stations are already beautified with special electrification to observe the Paryatan Pav being celebrated by the Ministry of Tourism from October 5 to 25.  A street play was staged on tourism this morning at Konkan Railway Station by the students of Institute of Hotel Management Porvorim which was viewed by a large number of passengers who were waiting for their respective trains. While 18 students enacted the play 14 others were present as volunteers erecting the standees and holding the posters etc. Margao was the second performance of the play which was earlier staged at Dona Paula. The street play dealt with various aspects of tourism, including safety and security, cleanliness, anti-defacement, etc.
