Arrested cops told to approach NDPS court for bail

HERALD REPORTER
PANJIM, APRIL 7
Five policemen who were suspended for their alleged links with drug dealers will have to approach Narcotics Drugs and Psychotrophic Substances (NDPS) Court if they wish to seek bail.
The Bombay High Court at Goa on Wednesday ruled that NDPS court itself is competent authority to decide their bail pleas.
Suspended police constables Shaikh Hassan, Sandeep Parab and Ramchandra Canconkar who are currently under arrest, had approached High Court after NDPS Court, Mapusa declined to grant them bail for want of jurisdiction.
Justice N A Britto ruled that NDPS court does have jurisdiction and refused to hear their bail pleas.
Suspended police inspector Ashish Shirodkar has also filed for bail before High Court as also absconding police constable Sanjay Parab has filed for anticipatory bail which is likely to be heard next week.
