PANJIM, APRIL 6
Finally, Goa will be in the league of weather stations which are equipped with sophisticated Doppler radar which will make climate forecast a much accurate task.
The dismantled pieces of Doppler radar will enter Goa tomorrow via Mumbai, which will be installed at Altinho after the existing building is ready for the same.
Indian Meteorological Observatory in-charge K V Singh told Herald that the radar has been already dispatched from Mumbai and it will arrive in Goa tomorrow. However, he said that the work of its installation will begin in May.
“The work of the third floor of the building, where the radar is to be installed is in process and it will get completed by end of this month,” Singh added.
Since last six month the Met department is working on modifying the radar building at Altinho with the help of Central Public Work Department (CPWD).
Singh confirmed that since the radar has been made in China, experts from China will be coming to Goa to install the same.
The Met department hopes that the new high-tech sophisticated computer operated Doppler radar will enable them to render near accurate forecast, especially during monsoons.
The Doppler equipment will help the Department increase the span of its forecast.
