Five held for assaulting cops

Ponda Police on Monday arrested five persons from Khazorda-Borim on charges of abusing and assaulting police personnel on duty.
Police have identified the accused as Mahadev Naikborkar, Krishna Naikborkar, Manda Naikborkar, Jayanti Naikborkar and Maya Naikborkar, while one more accused was reported to be absconding.
According to Ponda Police, one Eknath Naik from Khazorda had requested for police protection to build a compound wall near his house. Naik approached police with a court order which gave consent to built the compound wall.
“On Monday, we deputed a police team to the area at about 2.30 pm. Soon after I received a call from our staff that few people were creating problem at the site, I along with some more staff rushed to the site,” said PSI Tukaram Chauhan.
“The accused abused and even manhandled us. They even damaged the compound wall which was under construction. We have arrested five accused, while one is absconding. I have also filed a complaint against the six accused,” he added.
