PANJIM, APRIL 6
The Cabinet today approved the Sports policy making Goa the first State in the country to award marks to the students who excel in sports.
“The benefit of the sports policy had to be given to the students who are appearing for exams this year,” Kamat said at the post Cabinet media briefing.
He said the emergency meeting was called as the cabinet had to take a decision and communicate it to the Goa Board, whose executive council was meeting today.
“Otherwise it would have to be implemented from the next academic year,” Kamat stated.
Giving details of the marks under the sports policy, Kamat said students who play at taluka level will get five marks, those who are contributing at district, state and zonal level will get 10, 15 and 20 marks respectively while the students playing at national and international level will get 25 and 40 marks, respectively.
Those students who bag medals will also get additional marks (maximum of 12 marks), the chief minister said.
Maximum 52 marks will be available for the taking, he noted.
Besides this, Kamat said the sports policy also gives sizeable relaxation in school attendance to the students participating in sports.
“50 per cent exemption in the attendance would be given for the representation at State and zonal level, 30 per cent for taluka, 40 per cent for district level and 75 per cent exemption for national and international level,” he said.
The marks and attendance exemption will be given for only Board exams, he said.
With this sports policy, Kamat said, Goa probably is the only State in the country to give benefit to the sports talent in form of marks,” he said.
