Mining transporters urged to reduce traffic on Tilamol-Sanguem route

MARGAO, APRIL 7 The South Goa District Magistrate has asked requested mining transporters to reduce the volume of truck traffic to 40 per cent on the Tilamol-Curchorem-Sanguem route to avoid accidents on the narrow stretch of road.

The South Goa District Magistrate has asked requested mining transporters to reduce the volume of truck traffic to 40 per cent on the Tilamol-Curchorem-Sanguem route to avoid accidents on the narrow stretch of road.
A final decision will, however, be taken at the meeting of the ore transporters and mine owners with the Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat later in the evening.
The message was conveyed to the mine owners and ore transporters at the meeting they had with the District Magistrate and other authorities in the district Collectorate on Wednesday morning.
During the discussions with ore transporters, who are annoyed over the ban imposed by the district magistrate on plying of mining trucks till April 10, the traffic and other authorities maintained there is no scope for ore traffic on the route and suggested reducing the volume.
After much discussions, the district Magistrate called for reducing the ore traffic volume by 40 per cent.
It was also suggested to take up widening and broadening of the existing route on a war footing. The meeting was informed that the government has accorded administrative approval for the acquisition of additional for and the broadening work.
In this connection, the district Magistrate directed the Taluka mamlatdar to seek NOCs from the concerned land owners for early completion of the broadening work. Naik informed that NOCs can be obtained from the land losers on the assurance that the government would compensate them suitably in lieu of land acquisition.
Meanwhile, the Magistrate asked the mining companies and the ore transporters to submit the number of trucks transporting mining ore along the Tilamol-Curchorem stretch of the road.
Mine owners or their representatives from Rivona and Quepem areas along with the truck contractors attended the meeting.
“We have made certain suggestions to the mine owners and the ore transporters. All these issues will be deliberated at a meeting with the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat scheduled in Panjim later in the evening”, the Magistrate informed.
During discussions, the Magistrate has made a suggestion to the mine owners to forge a consensus amongst them on the transportation of ore during certain days of the month to reduce the volume of traffic on the route.
