MoES to study environmental impact of River Princess: CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Monday stated that the Ministry of Earth and Science (MoES) has assured to study the environmental impact of River Princess on the coast of Goa.
Kamat was speaking during the 10th Foundation Day celebration of National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR) at Headland Sada-Vasco on Monday.
Kamat expressed gratitude to MoES Secretary Shailesh Naik for their assurance to the State government to study the environmental impact of vessels on the Goan coast.
The NCAOR submitted a preliminary mapping done by the NCAOR as part of its study of ‘River Princess’ to Kamat.
Kamat termed National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) and NCAOR as the prestigious institutes in the State, as NCAOR has made tremendous progress in the last 10 years.
He stressed on the good work done by NCAOR, which has made Goa state proud and has opened avenues for the people of Goa to enter into exciting world of scientific research.
He also appreciated former chief minister Pratapsingh Rane, who had allotted a land to NCAOR during his tenure, and because of his decision Goa has been blessed with NCAOR.
In his speech, Rane reminisced the time when he granted the land at Headland Sada to built NCAOR. He lauded the achievement made by the Centre in such a short span of time.
Earlier, the dignitaries also released the technical report on Indian Antarctic expedition along with booklets on scientific activities, labs of NCAOR and a monograph on the Lichens of Antarctica.
The Foundation Day lecture on ‘Antarctica – Then, Now and in Future’ was delivered by Geological Society of India President Prof Harsh K Gupta. He presented the history of climate of Antarctica and how the present global warming is altering its delicate balance that can have serious implications in terms of sea level rise and ocean-atmosphere interactions.
During the function, leaders of expeditions presented the activities and significant findings of their team members.
Other present on the occasion were MoES Secretary Dr Shailesh Naik, NCAOR Director Dr Rashik Ravindran, Chief Secretary Sanjiv Shrivastav, Flag Officer of Goa Naval Area Rear Admiral Sudhir Pillai, DIG Coast Guard M S Dangi and Mirza Baig, scientists from NCAOR.
