Warring cops: SP orders departmental probe

MARGAO, APRIL 4 South Goa Superintendent of Police, Allan De Sa has ordered a departmental inquiry into the ugly incident involving two warring constables at the Nehru Stadium on Saturday.

MARGAO, APRIL 4
South Goa Superintendent of Police, Allan De Sa has ordered a departmental inquiry into the ugly incident involving two warring constables at the Nehru Stadium on Saturday.
The district police chief told Herald that appropriate action would be initiated against the two police constables – a traffic constable and the other attached to the Margao police station – after the departmental inquiry.
“What happened at the Nehru stadium is unbecoming of police constables and does not augur well for the police force”, De Sa said, adding that he has asked Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dy SP to conduct a probe into the incident.
The two police constables traded blows in full public view at the gate leading to the players’ dressing room, before they were separated by the match commissioner, Walter Pereira. In the absence of any superior police officer, the match commissioner reprimanded the two warring constables, reminded them of their duty to protect the players and the referees and not to fight amongst themselves in full view of the public.
Senior police officers in the know informed that indiscipline is slowly getting into the police force in recent times. A senior police officer admitted that even policemen of the rank of Police Sub-Inspectors have come into focus for their temperamental attitude towards the public and sheer disrespect to the higher officers given their clout with the political establishment.
