Fomento has said that the construction and setting up of a treatment plant at the Sonsodo dump yard will begin in May and will be completed by March 2011.
Submitting a detailed bar chart of the scheduled of work at the dumping site as directed by the High Court, Fomento has further submitted that the company would undertake work on capping the Sonsodo site with tarpaulin in May. Also the company has stated that work on the construction of drains and other works will commence at the site in May.
As far as the existing dump yard is concerned, the company has stated in the bar chart that it will continue to manually segregate the waste and the work will continue till November before the work is undertaken mechanically.
The company has also stated that it would mobilise the machinery by October this year.
Fomento was asked by the High Court to submit a detailed bar chart on the schedule of work proposed to be undertaken at the dumping site during the hearing of a contempt petition.
The Margao Municipal and Fomento have not yet officially entered into a concession agreement even though the Goa-based company has been insisting from day one on the signing of the agreement.
In fact, the draft concession agreement is yet to be tabled at the Council meeting for ratification by the City Fathers as many eyebrows were raised over the provisions in the concession agreement.
MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the delay on the signing of the concession agreement was expected by the Civic body as the same requires vetting by the Advocate General and the law department as per rules. “This is one reason why the Civic body has been insisting with Fomento to first commence segregation and screening work at the site”, he added.
