CCTVs, free WiFI, GIS mapping on the cards

PORVORIM: Closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera surveillance system for the coastal belt in North, along with free WiFi service for tourists and GIS mapping of the entire State are some of the ambitious e-governance projects on the cards, Tourism Minister Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar told the State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. 

The Minister told the House that Tourism Department has received nearly Rs 200 crore under the Central government sponsored Swadesh Darshan scheme, with Rs 99.98 crore for North Goa and Rs 99.3 crore for South.

“Under the scheme, we have proposed installing CCTVs and free WiFi service to the visitors along the beach belts of Calangute, Candolim and Baga at an estimated cost of Rs 3.60 crore,” Azgonkar said adding that free WiFi network will be provided through BSNL. 

“Government has also proposed GIS mapping of the entire State at a cost of Rs 1.37 crore. This will help everyone get information related to State on their mobiles, desktops,” he added. 

Tourism Department will be spending Rs 27 crore on redevelopment of Aguada Fort apart from development and beautification of beach belts both in the North and South under the scheme.
