PORVORIM: Stating that the Assembly sessions need to be considered as “feedback system for the government”, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Wednesday announced to extend the duration of the functioning of the State Legislative Assembly to 40-45 days annually, from the coming year onwards.

Speaking to media persons after celebrating his birthday after the Assembly session, Parrikar said that he has moved more than 1000 notes to various departments during the last eight months of his government as a follow up on the feedback received through Assembly questions, public and media.

“From Budget session onwards (to be held in February), the duration of the sitting of the House for the year will be 40-45 days minimum,” Parrikar said.

He said that the lengthy sessions will allow questions to be spread out, raising pointed issues. “When the sessions are short, several questions are asked in one session. If there are more days then the questions can spread out,” he said adding that several times, pointed questions are not asked by MLAs due to which proper answers cannot be given.

Parrikar said that the Assembly issues help one to understand which way the department is going. “They give you a feedback. I always correct if there is something wrong,” he said.

“In last eight months, I have issued more than 1000 notes depending on the feedback received from the public and media. I am open for suggestions to run the government in a better way,” the Chief Minister said, responding to the criticism of his government by opposition and critiques. “If there is any injustice, then it can be corrected once you get a feedback from the public,” he said.
