PORVORIM: Expressing helplessness in physically verifying every person visiting the State, the Goa government will launch the Crime and Networking System (CCTNS) in the State on December 19, which will help with information about crime and criminals from all over the country.

Announcing this on the Floor of the House, Chief Minister said the government is contemplating introducing a new law under the Tenancy Act, wherein house owners will be penalised for failing to verify the antecedents of tenants before renting out the premise.

As per information tabled by Chief Minister, 604 theft cases were reported this year till December 10, of which 283 have been detected. Last year, during the same period, 576 cases were reported with 274 being detected.

“There is marginal increase of 4.8 per cent theft cases,” Parrikar said while replying to the calling attention motion moved by Congress MLA Pratapsingh Rane.

“Also the government is contemplating a special legislation to penalise house owners who allow tenants to stay without verification under the current legal provision,” he added. The CM also said that all suspects, ex-convicts and history sheeters are under constant surveillance, while suspected persons found moving during odd hours are being rounded up and interrogated.
