World Malaria Day 2024 is celebrated worldwide to mark zero malaria in the future. The theme for World Malaria Day 2024 is "Accelerate the fight against malaria for a more equitable world. Goa is all set to get zero Malaria records in the coming year.
The health services in the state are targeting the end of 2024 to achieve the zero- malaria status for the entire state. Malaria found in any resident of Goa or anyone who has been in Goa for 14 days or more is considered to be an indigenous case. In cases where the infected person has been in Goa for less than two weeks, the case is classified as limited. state has reported zero indigenous malaria cases because of the continuous screening drives for the influx of population.
Hardly any malaria cases are detected at health centers' OPDs. Dengue cases are usually found on sites where our checking takes place. Health authorities in addition to screening laborers at construction sites, have been screening workers at migrant settlement areas, jetties, quarries, hotels, and shacks as well.
Health authorities in collaboration with other departments are also taking up awareness camps, to educate and inform people about malaria. Densely populated areas are fogged and sprayed to eradicate malaria breeding in the area. They are even taking pre-monsoon preparedness drives where stagnant waters are released and surrounding areas are cleaned.
Every year, World Malaria Day is observed on April 25. World Malaria Day, inaugurated in 2007, marks a pivotal moment in the global fight against malaria. It emerged as a platform to highlight the collective efforts aimed at combating this ancient and devastating disease. Originating from the World Health Assembly's recognition of the need for intensified action, World Malaria Day serves as a sign of solidarity among nations, organizations, and individuals committed to malaria control and eventual eradication.
