An enormous landslide took place on Thursday along the highway between Hunli and Anini in Arunachal Pradesh, resulting in a severe disruption to the route connecting Dibang Valley, which shares a border with China. Preliminary reports indicate extensive damages were reported to the road infrastructure along the Roing-Anini Highway, particularly between Hunli and Anini.

The impacted highway serves as the sole lifeline linking the Dibang Valley district with the rest of India, making the landslide a matter of significant concern for local authorities and residents alike. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has voiced his apprehension over the incident and has promptly issued directives for the restoration of connectivity at the earliest.

Expressing dismay over the widespread destruction caused by the landslide, concerned citizens have conveyed their sentiments through various platforms, including social media. One individual expressed, "Disturbed to learn of the inconvenience caused to commuters due to the extensive damage to the highway between Hunli and Anini. Instructions have been issued to restore connectivity at the earliest as this road connects Dibang Valley to the rest of the country."

Footage circulated online depicts the horrifying outcome of the natural disaster and the profound trench in the road, with rainwater streaming continuously, underscoring the magnitude of the calamity.

This incident follows a recent seismic event in the region, as on 20th April, a magnitude 3.0 earthquake rattled the West Kameng area of Arunachal Pradesh, as per data from the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The quake's epicentre was recorded at Latitude 27.39 and Longitude 92.68, with a depth of 5 kilometres.
