scorching continues to rise in Odisha leaving people suffering an intense heat

The state of Odisha in India continues to suffer from an intense heatwave, with 18 cities recording temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius. The coal mining region of Talcher registered the highest temperature at 43.2 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed these figures.

IMD Director Manorama Mohanty stated that more than 41 degrees Celsius was recorded in 18 cities, including Bhubaneswar at 41.7 degrees Celsius and Cuttack at 41.5 degrees Celsius. The coastal areas experienced humidity ranging from 40% to 80%. The IMD has issued a heatwave warning for the next five days.

In response to the heatwave forecast, the Odisha government announced the closure of all schools in the state from April 18 to 20. IMD predicts that temperatures may rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in several places, potentially exceeding 45 degrees Celsius in some areas.

The affected districts, as stated by IMD's Bhubaneswar Centre, include Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Angul, and Boudh, where heatwave conditions prevail. Additionally, there is hot and humid weather in some areas of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

The ongoing heatwave poses a significant challenge to the people of Odisha, leading authorities to take preventive measures such as closing schools. Residents must take necessary precautions and stay hydrated to protect themselves from the extreme heat.Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
