P’yat has done its bit, now govt should take it from here

Basuri Desai speaks to Sarpanch Savio Almeida about what the locals feel

HERALD: How do you react to the recent incidents of the death in the music parties?

Savio: It is very sad that such parties are allowed to take place in our beautiful places. We are deeply hurt owing to the fact that our village is getting a bad name noth nationally and globally. The villagers depend on the tourism trade but with a handful of people involved in illicit activities, there is apprehension that the villagers may lose the business forever.

HERALD:  Why can't the panchayat body act to curb these activities in the village?

Savio: We went beyond the limit and even filed cases in the courts and made several representations to the law makers and even to the PMO to save our village from further destruction.

HERALD:  What panchayat has done so far on the loud music?

Savio: Religious celebrations, school events and birthday parties are being stopped by police sharp at 10pm then why can’t the same police act against drug parties which continues for 72 hours.
