6 teams for all-India volleyball at Dhargal

PANJIM, APRIL 4 The first-ever all-India volleyball tournament in North Goa organised by Shirgal SC Dhargal in association with Diamond SC, Arabo SC, Abhijit SC, Dhargal Sarvajanik Ganeshtav Mandal and SAG will be held from April 20-24 at Dhargal panchayat court, Pernem.

The first-ever all-India volleyball tournament in North Goa organised by Shirgal SC Dhargal in association with Diamond SC, Arabo SC, Abhijit SC, Dhargal Sarvajanik Ganeshtav Mandal and SAG will be held from April 20-24 at Dhargal panchayat court, Pernem.
“For North Goa, it will be a big event in volleyball, which is in need of revival. There is plenty of potential which needs exposure and a platform and as such, the mega event in which six teams, including Goa will participate,” said national player Jit Arolkar.
“The volleyball glory seen in 1980s and 90s need to be brought back and a tournament of this magnitude being conducted by a club and that too from a relatively backward Taluka, Pernem, will go a long way in giving the game a very big boost,” said Jit, who is passionate about its successful organisation.
Karnataka State Police, SC Railway, ICF Chennai, MEG Bangalore, Trivandruim Six, Kerala and hosts Goa will be the teams to be watched, some of whom have international and national players in their ranks.
The winners will get Rs 40,000, the runners-up Rs 30,000, the 3rd placed Rs 20,000 and the 4th placed Rs 10,000 besides trophies, with the event being held on league basis. There will also be individual prizes.
The inaugural on April 20 at 7.30 p.m. by Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat will be preceded by a festive show, inclusive of dancers, cheer leaders and cultural events which will add glitter to the event.
Sports Minister, Babu Azgaonkar is the patron-in-chief and Bhusan Naik, Dhargal Sarpanch its organising president.
The tournament has been recognised by Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) and Goa Volleyball Association (GVA).
