Ambelim SC prevail over Navelim Villagers Union
CHINCHINIM: Ambelim Sports Club prevailed over Navelim Villagers Union 6-4 via the tie-breaker to march into the semi-finals of All Goa 27th Our Lady of Merces inter- village football tournament organized by Sirlim Sports Club, at church ground, Chinchinim, on Saturday.
Heavy downpours made the life miserable or both the teams as they struggled to exhibit positional display. As the match progressed, Navelim Villagers Union took over their reins and launched barrage of attacks and their breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Rowan Pereira's rasping shot gave no chance whatsoever Ambelim Sports Club Benny Silva.
Spurred by the success, Navelim Villagers Union hunted for more goals but rival defenders were alert in containing the rival rampaging forwards. On the other hand, Ambelim Sports Club earned a string of chances towards the end of lemon break but could not break the rival back line.
The second half turned livelier Ambelim Sports Club neutralized the lead 44th minute when a goal kick taken by Benny Silva and the former trapped the well and punted the ball to the far corner of the net keeping the Navelim goalkeeper dazed.
In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, Ralf Fernandes, Ben Fernandes, Raymon Pinto, Desmond Fernandes and Premson Fernandes were on target for Ambelim Sports Club while Climax Lawence, Travil Souza and Aulon Gomes found the mark for Navelim Villagers Union.
