MAPUSA: Benny XI, Mapusa edged past PVC Parra 3-2 to progress into the quarter-finals of North Goa Yarri Cup inter-village football tournament organised by Saligao United, at Duler ground, Mapusa, on Monday.

PVC Parra started the game on an attacking note and took the lead as early as the first minute when Atish bulged the net.

However, the joy was short-lived as Benny XI fought gallantly and cancelled the lead in the 18th minute when striker Stephen punished the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish in the 10th minute.

The equaliser boosted the morale of the Mapusa team as they rattled the rival defence with well orchestrated raids and in the 18th minute Nayan  beat the rival goalkeeper with rasping shot to make it 2-1.

Benny XI pushed the rival defence only to see the rival goalkeeper come up with  some brilliant saves.

In the 26th minute, Stephen put the issue beyond doubt when his shot beat the rival goalkeeper to make it 3-0 for the winners.

Crossing over, PVC Parra took the fight to the rival camp as the Mapusa team played at a leisure pace and allowed their opponents to launch a barrage of attacks as Rowell Pinto reduced the deficit late in the second half.
