Bethany HS, Manovikas HS triumph in U-13 inter-school futsal

MARGAO: Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal demolished Our lady of Mount Carmel, Arambol 6-0 in the U-13 boys finals while Manovikas High School, Gogol edged past St. Thereza High School Candolim 2-1 in the finals of U-13 girls in the 1st U-13 Inter School Futsal Festival held by the DSYA in association with Futsal Association of Goa(FAG), at Chowgule Futsal court, Borda, recently.

MARGAO: Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal demolished Our lady of Mount Carmel, Arambol  6-0 in the U-13 boys finals while Manovikas High School, Gogol edged past  St. Thereza High School Candolim 2-1 in the finals of U-13 girls in the 1st U-13 Inter School Futsal Festival held by the DSYA in association with Futsal Association of Goa(FAG), at Chowgule Futsal court, Borda, recently.

Aron Endro opened the scoring for Bethany Convent High School in the first minute of the match while Leo Gomindes doubled the lead in the 2nd minute. Aryan Carvalho widened the lead for Bethany Convent in the 16th and 23rd minute. 

Further improving the team and trying to find the right mix of players Bethany Convent High School substitutions worked. Veron Rocha put his name on the score sheet in the 28th minute. Our lady of Mount Carmel was forced to play a more defensive game. 

Karol Fernandes, Our lady of Mount Carmel goalkeeper played a crucial role under the crossbar and was awarded the best Futsaler for his brilliant saves as  Bethany Convent High School ponded the rivals with pin point passes but the alert keeper read well to thwart most of the threats.

In the U-13 girls final, Gretel Pereira opened account for Manovikas while St Thereza’s restored parity through the boots of Destiny D’souza.

Manovikas dictated the game through possession of the ball playing an attractive style of Futsal that was consistent throughout.

 St Thereza’s fought hard to get back into the game but the match was put out of contention when Vesna Pereira struck for Manovikas to win the game with a 2-1 win.

Leandra Fernandes of St Thereza High School bagged the Best Futsaler award and Ajury Silva was awarded the Best Goalkeeper.

In all 69 School teams from all over Goa participated in the Futsal Festival. In all 45 boys teams and 24 girls teams participated in the four-day event.

 Melvin Pereira, Chairman The Kings School, was the chief guest for the final along with the President of FAG Benjamin Silva,  Edwin Fernandes,(FAG  Sec),  Julio Monterio (Treasurer FAG ) and other FAG members were also present for the final.
