MAPUSA: Calangute Association hammered Football Club de Bardez by 5-0 margin in the Bardez derby match of the Goa Professional League, organised by Goa Football Association, played at Duler Stadium, here on Friday.

With this win, Calangute climbed to 4th position with 29 points from 20 matches, while Bardez has 18 points from 20 outings

Blake Haldankar made the a comeback to Calangute’s starting XI after missing out in the last match where they drubbed Vasco SC by 4-1 margin, while Bardez assistant coach Climax Lawrence also made only one change to his side which were held  by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim in the previous round match as Danstan Fernandes was back in the  the Pink Brigade.

It was just three minutes when Blake put Calangute in the lead. Newton Azavedo stole the ball from Bardez defender Lalbabu Matho’s feet just outside the box and squared it to well-positioned Blake in the box, the striker later shot past Bardez keeper David Chauhan from close making it 1-0 for his side.

A few minutes later, Bardez had a golden opportunity when their midfielder Inacio Colaco set up Ronil Azavedo with just keeper to beat but Calangute keeper Jason D’Mello made a superb save to deny the forward in a one-on-one situation.

Next few minutes witnessed, Bardez continuously penetrating Calangute’s defence but most of their moves were neutralised before entering the final third, while some of the aimless shots restricted them from finding the equaliser.

At the other end, Calangute had a chance to double their lead in the 33rd minute when Newton came with a fine cross at the far post but U-20 forward Leslee Britto shot wide from close.

On crossing, Calangute had a couple of clear-cut chances but first substitute Ashok Megheri headed out from close off Blake’s perfect cross from the edge of the box, while a minute later, he failed to connect from close to Nigerian Kouame Joseph’s low cross.

Another chance went begging for Calangute in the 65th minute when Newton came up with another fine cross at the far post but Mayur Shelar shot wide from point-blank range.

However, in the 69th minute, Nigerian defender Kouame’s header hit the side post and went in off Bersal Viegas’ cross to double the score for Calangute.

Two minutes later, the Nigerian defender scored his second goal of the match when he dribbled past two opponents in his run and shot past Bardez keeper David from the top of the box to make it 3-0 for the Beachside.

It was just three minutes from his second goal when Kouame completed his hat-trick as this time Nigerian defender just had to tap the ball home from Newton’s low cross in the box making it 4-0 for the home side.

In the added time, Bardez defender Gaurav Vaigankar brought down Domnic Fernandes in the box to give away a penalty to Calangute where Kouame stepped up and made no mistake to beat the Bardez keeper David from the spot to make it 5-0.
