RAIA: In a thrilling inaugural match of the 26th Holy Cross inter-village football tournament, Canacona Sports and Cultural Club showcased their prowess defeating Uguem Rising Club with a commanding 4-1 victory to move into the quarter-finals, in the match played at Kakoda ground, on Tuesday.

From the outset, both teams displayed an aggressive attacking style, resulting in an intense battle for dominance. Uguem Rising struck the first goal in the 24th minute, with Macson Da Costa delivering a well-placed shot to secure an early lead. However, Canacona SCC quickly retaliated, with Alvito Miranda levelling the score just a couple of minutes later, setting the tone for their relentless pursuit of victory.

The momentum shifted decisively in Canacona SCC’s favour during the first half, as Yamnusab Pinjar found the back of the net in the 29th minute, giving his team a crucial lead. 

In the second half, Uguem Rising Club struggled to regain control, while Canacona SCC capitalised on their momentum, adding to their lead with goals from Chaitan in the 51st minute and Rancher D’Sousa in the 60th minute.

With a final score of 4-1 in favour of Canacona SCC, the team demonstrated their skill and determination, marking an impressive start to their tournament campaign.
