Goa’s infrastructure for sports to host the national and international events has taken a big leap with all the preparations well in place. The Nehru Stadium in Fatorda has been brought on par as per the compliance with FIFA standards, and the credit goes to J N Chimulkar, alias Satish, who is the chief engineer of Sport Authority of Goa (SAG) for his achievement in planning and execution of the work.

Because of his expertise and above all time bound deliveries he was invited by SAG specially for hosting the Lusofonia Games for creating the infrastructure needed in the limited time, based on his experience and expertise of delivering goods on IFFI.

Chimulkar, who is technically sound having all major sports knowledge, is now on mission for the National Games for which he feels that the infrastructure will be prepared according to the specifications required by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

The Nehru Stadium was not in compliance to FIFA standards, especially to host the Under-17 World Cup, but Chimulkar with his intelligence made provision and converted the same as per FIFA standards.

“Provision has been made for four dressing rooms so that four teams can check in and two matches can be played on a single day at the Nehru stadium. Besides this a dope room, medical room, media room and additional referees room are also provided”, Chimulkar said.

The floodlights at the stadium have also been increased above the FIFA standard, he said.

“The flood lights at the stadium have been upgraded from 1500 LUX to 2400 LUX which is more than the present FIFA requirement (2000 LUX) for which no external consultants was appointed”, he added.

The flood lights were also fixed at the Benaulim and Utorda with 400 lux which is higher than the required 350.

Chimulkar has also prepared the entire blueprint  for the renewal of the Indoor Stadium at Campal with four tennis courts planned.

Chimulkar was earlier  the chief engineer of road, highway and water supply of the Public Works Department (PWD). He was also chief project officer of Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) and retired as the general manager of Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).
