Head Coach Alfred Fernandes termed Churchill Brothers FC as the ‘launching pad for the players’ after the departure of entire core team for better prospects.

Forming and structuring the team five days prior to the season, the Varca based club was aboard to the talent such as —Adil Khan, Brendon Fernandes, Rowilson Rodrigues —to revive their career and they made the best use of the opportunity to earn their place in the ISL.

“Churchill Brothers FC was a launching pad for the players and a resurrected their careers (for some). I’m happy for them,” explained Alfred from the sidelines of their trials.

The coach also lauded the players for their efforts, handwork and dedication throughout the league.

“Without performing you don't get opportunity as well so their handwork earned them a place in the draft,” he further added.

Coming late into business, Churchill Brothers FC were forced to restructure their team with the second best talent at their disposal after the best were absorbed by the other clubs.

“The trials could have been early, but we had other problems like the availability of ground but that’s not an excuse. We could have held the trials in the first week of August or last week of July,” he explained.

“There are still many inquiries from outside. The problem is that we have a small budget and if get a good sponsor we can increase on that. We are looking out for quality foreigner for the I-League.

While Churchill Bros conducted two-day football trials at Fatorda, it was a great surprise to see many national players attend the trials.

The Red Machines have shortlisted 40 players for the final trials and with Goa Pro League fast approaching, the gaffer said, “I’m looking out for players to play well in the Pro-league and earn place in I-League and at Churchill bros we are giving them the platform to perform. We are not competing for the pro-league title. We’ll be looking out for the players performing in the Pro-league for the I-league.

Alfred revealed that he has full backing from the Club CEO Valanka Alemao and said, “The team is working as a unit. Last year was the perfect example and the proof for the same. Hopefully we can’t have miracles all the time.” he concluded
