BETALBATIM: Cuncolim Union blanked Curtorim Gymkhana, 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the Martins Cup organised by Betalbatim SC, at Betalbatim ground, on Saturday.

In the second minute itself, Curtorim through Jovito Fernandes should have netted the first but Frazier Fernandes and Sangam Gaonkar of Cuncolim blocked Jovito’s move. In the next minute, Micky Fernandes of Cuncolim sent in a long ball to Edney Fernandes but Edney’s shot lacked firepower.

In the 2nd  half, Cuncolim Union netted two quick goals through Bharat Gaonkar in the 35th minute with a neat placement shot. Cuncolim doubled the lead through Micky Fernandes power packed shot. Curtorim’s Man-of-the-Match Clifton Barbosa missed two great sitters in the 58th and 60th minute.

Cuncolim Union will now meet the winners of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and Navelim Sporting in the quarter-finals on December 27.
