VARCA: A second half strike by substitute striker Alliston Fernandes enabled Curtorim Gymkhana to edge past CAC, Cansaulim 1-0 to win the Roosevelt Alemao memorial inter-village football tournament organised Churchill Brothers Football Club, at Varca ground, on Saturday.

Both the teams displayed attacking brand of football and kept the crowds on their toes. As the match progressed, CAC Cansaulim dominated the proccedings initially and enjoyed better ball possession. They got the first chance in the thirdminute when defender Roysal Teodosio Fernandes unleashed a blistering shot which was well saved by the Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper Johnson Bhagot.

The all important goal came in the 49th minute when Allister Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.

Curtorim Gymkhana were richer by Rs 75,000 and a glittering trophy while CAC Cansaulim had to settle for Rs 50,000 and a trophy.

Ponda MLA Ravi Naik was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Joaquim Alemao , Ex Urban Development Minister, Fr Candido Ferandes, Mariavilha Alemao wife of late Roosevelt Alemao, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, Valanka Alemao, CEO of Churchill Brothers Football Club other dignitaries and club officials.
