DBO Oratory pip Betalbatim to sail into quarter-finals
The winners proved to be better shooters in the resultant tie-breaker after the match ended in a 2-2 draw
RAIA: Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda defeated Betalbatim SC 7-5 via the tie-breaker to advance into the quarter-finals of the 46th Custodio memorial football tournament organised by Raia Sporting, at Raia panchyat ground, on Sunday.
Don Bosco’s Francis Andrade fed the ball to Melvin Furtado inside Betalbatim box but the latter spoiled a golden chance as he shot wide in the third minute.
Betalbatim took possession of the ball and dominated for a while and Manushan Fernandes shot from long range towards the goal but the strike ballooned over the cross bar in the tenth minute.
Later, Francis Andrade of Don Bosco missed two sitters in the 20th and 25th minute as Betalbatim keeper Gladson Fernandes effortlessly saved the strikers attempts at the goal.
Don Bosco soon shot into the lead with Necil Pinto’s first half brace.
The teams went into the breather with the scores in favour of Don Bosco Oratory.
The rejuvenated Betalbatim side returned only to level the scores and scored two quick goals through Dylon Rodrigues and Austin Fernandes in the 48th and 50th minutes respectively. However luck favoured Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda as they proved to be better shooters in the resultant tie-breaker after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
