FATORDA: Dempo SC got the better of Goa Velha SC 2-0 in the Geno First Division League organised by Goa Football Association (GFA), played at Artificial turf, Fatorda, on Saturday.

 In an equally contested match, Goa Velha SC came with hope of finding redemption and played with utmost integrity, however, the team failed to convert their chances as Dempo SC grabbed full points.

After a compulsive first half, Dempo SC managed to finally surge ahead in the 28th minute as Baggio Fernandes made no mistake to finish off the ball past the Goa Velha keeper.

Goa Velha SC tried their level best to get back into the game before the first half but couldn't net the much-desired goal as the Eagles led 1-0 at half time.

 Post resumption, the Goa Velha side pressed the rivals to find a goal as they tried to shoot into the back of the net with constant attacks, but the Dempo SC defended well to hold their lead and soon managed to score another goal in the 73rd minute as substitute Altroy Rodrigues tapped in a brilliant ball by his teammate to make it 2-0.

Goa Velha SC struggled upfront and had their chance to find a consolation later on as Newton Pereira ran from the flank and shot towards the goal but his shot was saved by the keeper and was rebounded into play as Sahil Kurtkar rushed on to finish the ball however, Dempo SC defender stood his ground as he cleared the ball. Sachin Gawas was awarded the Man-of-the-Match award for his fine performance as the Eagles gathered a total of 12 points from 10 outings while the Goa Velha side are yet to register a win in this league having just 1 point off a draw.
