GFA meet approves introduction of baby leagues

PANJIM: GFA President Elvis Gomes does not seem to be done yet. In what he declared would be the last Executive Committee meeting, Gomes got the committee to approve the introduction of Baby Leagues, in the State.

The leagues are based on the principle of ‘catch them young' which has also been advocated by All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The Baby Leagues will allow children as young as 3 years to enjoy fun football and get introduced to the game.

Gomes told the committee that he had held a series of meetings with experts in Youth Development such as Katz Naidoo and others and had come to the conclusion that Baby Leagues were feasible to be held during weekends across the State. He said that the parents would be playing a big role in the conduct of Baby Leagues.

The GFA also approved the appointment of Genevieve Colaco as the Football Development Officer for Goa.

The committee approved the Goa Professional League schedule to kick-off for the season."We have accommodated the AWES Cup and slightly delayed the commencement of the league. We are also in the process of finalising a title sponsor for the League,” stated Gomes.

The Committee also reviewed the competitions and took serious view of clubs repeatedly seeking match postponements and decided against granting postponements unless there was an emergency situation.

The GFA ratified the decision of the President to field Welvin Menezes for the post of Executive Committee Member of the Goa Olympic Association elections as it felt that the Goa Olympic Association had failed to protect the interest of football in Goa by denying GFA its rightful dues.
