MAPUSA: Shortly after GFDC Residential Academy secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Goa U-15 State team, GFDC Member Secretary Aleixo Da Costa questioned the State team’s selection after the friendly defeat, “Our academy boys defeated the team selected to represent the State. The fact that the state team lost to us raises a huge questions mark on the selection process undertaken by GFA”

Aleixo lamented against the team selection and questioned the criteria on what basis the players were selected after his side won the friendly match played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Wednesday.

“It is a sad state of affairs that GFDC star player, Arnold Oliveira who scored five hat-tricks in the Under-14 State Subroto Mukerjee Inter-School football tournament did not find a place in the squad,” pointed out Aleixo.

“We have written to the GFA to have a relook at the team and rectify any intentional omissions made by them in the section process,” he added.

The Goa team which is selected by GFA and will be shortly participating in the Sub Junior National Football Championship 2017-18 (West Zone) houses six boys from the GFDC Academy.

The GFDC Academy lads began the play on an impressive note as they dictated pace from the middle and soon broke the deadlock through Meavan Dias, 1-0. In the 20th minute Rohan equalised for Goa.

The GFDC Academy boys moved the ball from end to end and displayed great composure keeping possession of the ball for long spells. In the 25th minute Vellington Fernandes took the lead for GFDC Academy, 2-1. The second half became frantic as the teams provided end to end action but it was the GFDC Academy boys who had the last laugh.
