PANJIM: The Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) took objection against comments made by Goa Football Association (GFA) President, Elvis Gomes against GFDC members.

The Member Secretary GFDC Aleixo Da Costa pointed out that they are challenging the selection of the team not only on the basis of the match which the GFA’s team lost to GFDC but also on the basis of the selection process.

“I am questioning GFA on the basis of constant, continuous daily feedback which the council was receiving from the GFDC’s Academy Team Manager about the methodology, criteria and process adopted by the coach during the selection trials,” mentioned Costa.

However, according to some football experts, the GFDC’s questioning on coach’s selections criteria regarding just one player is irrelevant as six of GFDC academy players are already in the team, which makes it clear that GFA is open to accommodate GFDC players.

The football experts were in the opion that every coach got its own style of play and the coach selects the players on the basis of their adaptibitlity and performance during the trials and the decision of the coach must be respected.

Despite the State team features six GFDC players, Aleixo has been in the loggerhead with GFA over the omission of just one single player --Arnold Oliveira, who he claims deserves a place in the team.

“The defeat of the state team at the hands of the boys from the GFDC Academy who didn’t find a place in GFA’s team only goes on to prove our apprehensions are right,”said Alexio.

It is also learnt that the friendly match was asked by the GFDC team itself. The real question is, was the match organised to prove the State team selection wrong or was it to give the young players match experience.

The fact that GFDC waited to react regarding the State team selection after the friendly match result is even a bigger question.
