Goa girls clinch Nat 9-a-side football title

PANJIM: The Goa girls’ team emerged champions at the National 9-a-side football tournament, organised by Amateur 9-a-side Football Association defeating Madhya Pradesh 3-0. 

The tournament was held in Madhya Pradesh, recently.

Meloshka Carvalho, Paloma Pires and Devyani Naik scored for Goa in the final.

Meanwhile, the State boys team had to settle for runners-up place after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Jharkhand in the final.

The girls team played six matches and scored 16 goals and conceded none. Goa’s Lysandra Rodrigues bagged the best goalkeeper award while Meloshka Carvalho was named the player-of-the-tournament.

The women’s team was coached by Tushar Bhagat and managed by Vivekananda Pednekar. Support Staff Coach Alexander Harmingo and Shaheel Shaikh assisted the team.

Meanwhile, the boys’ team, who were outstanding throughout the tournament scored 12 goals until the final in which they conceded their only goal against Jharkhand.
