Goan teams continue their impressive run

The hosts thump Andhra Pradesh 11-1 while the eves hit 12 past Pondichery

MAPUSA: The Goa men’s and women’s team continued their dominance in the 4th Senior National Futsal Championship, played at Peddem Sports Complex, Mapusa, on Saturday. While the Goa men’s team thumped Andhra Pradesh 11-1 in their Group A match, the women’s team hit 18 past the same State.

Meanwhile, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Chandigarh were the other teams to secure big wins in their respective encounters. In the men’s match, the hosts started brightly and continued their form in the tournament and it didn't take long to make their mark. Fredsan Marshall scored his second hat-trick of the tournament, while Hanslum Furtado netted a brace. Caiteano, Jasper and Savior scored one each for the home team. 

Earlier, Goa men's continued their winning streak as they beat Pondicheary 12-0. Fredsan, Savio and Hanslum scored three goals each while Lyndon, Jasper and Caiteano scored one goal each. Jammu and Kashmir came out strong after a defeat to the hosts to beat Andhra Pradesh 9-0. In another entertaining game, Sikkim beat Gujarat 3-1.

Other results of the day include: West Bengal thrashed Haryana 5-0. Meghalaya hit six past Uttarkhand. Chandigarh beat Rajasthan 7-0. Pondicheary defeated Andhra Pradesh 4-0. Kerala edged pass Assam 1-0. Telangana beat Bihar 4-0. Delhi beat Mumbai 3-1. Jammu Kashmir beat Pondicheary 3-2. Chandigarh beat Haryana 4-0.

In the Women’s category, the Goa eves got off to a winning start as they beat Andhra Pradesh 18-0 after a 1-1 draw to Karnataka in the previous game. Madhya Pradesh edged pass Maharashtra 1-0 in another women's game match held here at the Nationals. Maharashtra received a walk over against Haryana while Bihar beat Andhra Pradesh 10-0. Mumbai beat Delhi 1-0.
