Golden Eagles humble Churchill Bros 8-0

PANJIM: Dempo Sports Club scored a crushing 7-0 win over Churchill Brothers SC which kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the final round of the U-18 Hero AIFF Youth League.

Dempo Sports Club struck first blood early in the 10th minute when a defence splitting ball from the right found Altroy Rodrigues who beat the onrushing keeper and punted the ball home.

Minutes later a pile driver from Dempo striker Larryl Mascarenhas was brilliantly saved by the Churchill keeper Adam Khan. In the 22nd minute Dempo defender Nikhil Gurung got on the score sheet with the simplest of headers after a brilliant cross by Larryl Mascarenhas.

Dempo were up by three goals in the 22nd minute after Myron Fernandes was brought down in the box by Churchill defender Samson Gomes. Dempo captain Ryan Pinto calmly converted the spot kick past the Churchill keeper Adam Khan.

Five minutes before the break Baggio Fernandes made it 4-0 in favour of Dempo Sports Club- Myron Ferrao turning provider again.

In the second half Dempo scored two quick goals through substitute Kimran Fernandes to make it 6-0. Kimran got his first after being fed in by Velroy Carvalho and a minute later he nearly tore the nylons with a powerful shot from the left.

The Dempo tally could have reached double digits had their strikers not missed easy opportunities in the second half as the Churchill defence began to tire.

Just before the end of regulation time Altroy Rodrigues got his second of the evening and Dempo’s seventh to complete one of the biggest wins for Dempo Sports Club against Churchill Brothers in all competitions.
