Guardian Angel HSS girls champs

CURCHOREM: Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School, Curchorem edged past Cuncolim United Higher Secondary School, Cuncolim, 3-2 via the tie-breaker to win the Zone IV Higher Secondary School, football girls championship organised by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, at SAG Sports Complex Borimol, Quepem, on Monday.

Both the teams made a cautious start with the ball confined to the midfield. At half time the score was 0-0.

In the second half both the teams showed urgency and Ajosei Rodrigues nearly put Guardian Angel HSS ahead in the 30th minute but her attempt missed the target narrowly. 

For Cuncolim United HSS, Dloey Fernandes and Shilpa Kesrekar  had a good game while birthday girl Mysie Mendes had an excellent game in defence for Guardian Angel. 

With both teams failing to score at the end of regular time the tie-breaker rule was applied.

Siniola Pereira, Clement Mebel and Melisha Fernandes were successful for Guardian Angel HSS while only Tegal Correia and  Ciona Simoes netted for Cuncolim United HSS.

Santosh Patil, Physical Education teacher of Don Bosco Farm High School, Sulcorna gave away the certificates in the presence of Anthony Fernandes, APEO John Fernandes, TSO. Quepem  Motilal Gaonkar.

The winners and runners-up will now represent Zone IV at the inter-zone to be held on October 17, at Astroturf ground, Fatorda.
