BENAULIM: Maina Sports Club defeated United Boys of Dando, Colva 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 29th Super soccer football tournament organised by United Boys of Dando, Colva, at Sao Joao Baptist ground, Dando-Benaulim, on Thursday.

Maina SC started the match on an attacking note as their striker Jessel Carneiro took control of the ball from defender Savio Fernandes and dribbled past the rival defenders Conrad Fernandes and Maxon Fernandes and shot from close range but the keeper Minguel Fernandes parried the ball away to safety in the 5th minute.

At the other end, Colva’s Stanley Fernandes fired a shot from close range but the rival keeper Johnson Bhogot saved it brilliantly in the 8th minute.

Minutes later, Maina SC’s Savio Fernandes sent in a long ball to Milagres Fernandes but the latter’s shot failed to pop up into Colva nets.

The deadlock was broken by Maina SC’s Joywin Carneiro through a free kick which crashed at the back of the rival nets in the 30th minute.

Later, Maina SC’s Milagres Fernandes dribbled past a couple of defenders and netted the second for his team in the 36th minute.

UB Colva pulled a goal back through Ronnie Fernandes’ curler in the 46th minute.

Ten minutes later, Milagres Fernandes made it 3-1 for Maina SC before Vernon Fernandes drove the final nail into the coffin in the 68th minute to take the tally to 4-1.
