Miramar SC to host 4th Invitational TT championship

PANJIM: Miramar Sports Club will organise their fourth edition of "Invitational Table Tennis Championship" in collaboration with Goa TT Association and the Sports Authority of Goaat Multipurpose stadium, Peddem, Mapusa from April 26 to 28.

 The championship has evoked a good response in the past with several notable names participating in previous editions. 

This year’s star attractions will be men's doubles national champions duo of Arjun Ghosh-Ronit Bhanja, two-time Olympian Soumyajit Ghosh, India men's No 4 Sudhanshu Grover, 7-time national champion Abhishek Yadav, India youth No 3 Jeet Chandra besides others.

 Apart from top ranked oustation players, Goa junior and men number one; Wesley Do Rosario, State top ranked players Dheeraj Rai, Manish Yadav, Diljeet Velingker, Mallika Gogoi, Sanisha Shetye, Prutha Parrikar, Nagesh Verekar, Anshuman Agarwal, Shantesh Mapshekar, and former Goa State Champions Noel Noronha and Ajit Ghatker will be among those who will showcase their great finesse and skills during the three day event, which will conclude on April 28. 

 Addressing a press conference, Miramar Sports Club President, Joel Andrade said, “We at Miramar Sports Club see this championship as a significant step to carry this beautiful sport forward in Goa. Every year, this championship gets bigger and bigger and hopefully, very shortly, this championship will encourage Goa to kick-start a revolution in table tennis with more corporates coming forward to support the sport. We are very passionate about the sport and with support from the State Table Tennis Association, we can have an auction based championship in Goa as well within a year.”

 Joel said that they were introduceing the Mixed doubles category in year’s edition while six other categories will be held. 

He said a total prize purse of Rs 1,00,000 up for grabs apart from trophies and gift hampers and said the organisers expect some stiff competition from the best players. 

In all, the championship includes seven different categories, namely Men's team, Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, Mixed Doubles, U-15 Team, U-15 Singles, Ladies Singles and matches will begin at 9 a.m. while final will be held on April 28 from 2 p.m. onwards”.

 Myron Pereira, Treasurer, Miramar Sports Club said that they received names of around 150+ players who will participate in the championship. 

In men’s team championship, there are 22 teams participating and 16 teams in U-15 team event. In individual men's singles, the main draw will comprise of 64 players.” said Myron.

 On the occasion, Miramar Sports Club launched its website www.miramarsportsclub.com  and its magazine “Refresh”  at the hands of former State Table Tennis champion Narayan alias Ajit Ghantker.
