Navelim SC edge past Nerul SC
RAIA-COLVA: Navelim SC edged past Nerul SC 2-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the 48th Custodio Memorial football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club, at Raia panchayat ground, on Sunday.
Nerul’s Chaitan Dabholkar took a free-kick of which Jennifer Clemente rose high and took a header which hit the Navelim crossbar and landed into net in the fifth minute.
Two minutes later, Nerul’s Americo Rodrigues’ goal bound shot was saved by Nerul keeper Thomas D’Souza.
It was Clinton Niasso of Navelim who equalised in the 16th minute. As the match progressed, in the 56th minute, Presley Gomes netted the match-winner for Navelim SC.
Navelim Sporting Club will now meet the winners of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda and Sao Jose de Areal in the quarter-finals on July 14.
