CHANDOR: Navelim Sporting Club defeated Cuncolim Union 2-0 to move into the quarter-finals of the 44th Chandor Seamen football tournament match played at Chandor ground, on Saturday.

It was Fr Americo Rodrigues defender of Navelim who brilliantly tackled the move of Bharat Gaonkar of Cuncolim inside Navelim box in the 12th minute. After that there was a good scoring chance for Navelim through Alvito Colaco but the striker shot blindly into the safe hands of Cuncolim keeper.

Fr Americo sent in a long ball for Ratesh Namaskar of Navelim which was diping into Cuncolim net but was timely saved from the goaline by Raghuvir Gaunkar of Cuncolim in the 21st minute.

As the match progressed, Navelim opened the account through Travis Souza in the 23rd minute with a placement shot of Rovan Pereira’s connect. 

Krishna Shirodkar the defender of Cuncolim tried a solo long ranger in the 44th minute but Fr Americo of Navelim blocked it. 

Later, a key move by Fr Americo, Aulon Gomes and Darren Peixoto saw the ball at the back of Cuncolim nets after Darren shot it past the keeper in the 66th minute.

Navelim SC will meet the winners of Sarzora SC and Goa Velha SC in the quarter-finals on September 1.
