CARMONA: Navelim Villagers Union got the better of Maina Sports Club, Curtorim 3 -1 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the John Cruz Ferrao Memorial Cup,  organised by Carmona Sports Club, at village panchyat ground, Carmona, on Wednesday.

 In the first half, Maina went ahead through Veron Fernandes’ power-packed shot in the 19th minute.

In the second half, Maina were reduced to 10 men as Vicky Cardozo was given marching orders.

Taking advantage of the situation, Navelim went all out and they equalised through Selwin Gomes ‘long range shot in the 40th minute to restore parity.

In the tie-breaker, Navelim Villagers Union proved to be the better shooters.

Selvin Gomes of Navelim was adjudged man-of-the-match.
