VASCO: Churchill Brothers are grounded at the bottom of the I-League table following their 4-5 loss against Minerva Punjab, and new coach Derrick Pereira feels his side has to be ‘reinforced’ for the second phase.

“We need reinforce the team. I will talk to Churchill Alemao. He is planning to get in another foreigner and hopefully two Indian players if available. And we have got very good ball players. We will have to work on the fitness area. The faster we do this, we will win matches,” said CB coach Derrick Pereira.

“I would want an attacking player or an attacking midfielder and a player in defence as well,” he explained.

The hosts lost narrowly despite scoring four goals.

“I think it was a good match for the spectators with nine goals but bad result for us. We conceded goals and I felt the defence lacked communication. We have to work on that. We have lost on narrow margin earlier and I feel a lot of work has to be done in defence,” he expressed.

“Atleast we scored four goals today which is a positive thing.  Overall we’ll have to lift up our morale and get organised in defence. If our defence was strong enough we could have got the three points,” Pereira added.

With scores level 4-4 the hosts received a blow when they were punished with a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

“It was unfortunate that we allowed the centre midfielder to get at the top of the box. We didn’t close him down. Keenan’s positioning wasn’t right. It was unfortunate that ball hit his hand. I really want to analyse this match and work on certain areas. Fitness is one area as some of the players were struggling and I got to work on those lines.  We have to re-organise our defence.”

“I will go match by match and now I will see how they are playing –their formation and style and work accordingly and counter them.”

Derrick was roped in by Churchill Bros on Friday in mid season.

“This is my life, that’s the reason I picked Churchill Brothers at this moment. I’ve never was in such situation. I always built teams. It has been like last minutes quick fix.” He concluded.
