Ponda Veterans go marching into final


BANDORA: Ponda Veterans blanked Candolim Veterans 4-1 to move into the final of all-Goa Veterans Soccer Tournament organised by Ponda Veterans Club in association with Dr. Ketan Bhatikar's Rehabilitation Center played at Dayanand Bandodkar ground, Bandora, on Friday.

Ponda’s Derrick Perreira had the first chance of the match in the 6th minute but his move was foiled by Candolim Veterans defender. 

At the other end, Ponda’s Bobby got the ball on the flank and dodged a Candolim defender and his powerful shot was punched away by the Candolim keeper but the rebound fell to Derrick who scored for Ponda in the 37th minute. 

In the 39th minute, Ponda increased the lead when Derick received a through ball from Remy and his powerful shot beat the keeper to make it 2-0. 

In the next minute, Candolim tried to reduce the margin but Caitano’s shot was saved by Ponda keeper Anand. 

Minutes later, Candolim with a player less were no match for Ponda who increased the lead when Derrick gave a diagonal pass to Bobby who shot the ball and gave no chance to the keeper to make it 3-0.

As the match progressed, Santan Colaco released a through ball to Vincent Colaco who dodged past the keeper and made it 4-0. 

In injury time, a free-kick from Anthony Pontes reduced the lead to 4-1.
